Faculty member co-authors article on beer in ancient times
In this article (click here for link to article), Dr. Juengst and her co-author Celeste Gagnon investigate how bones can show if a person drank beer during their lifetime. This is particularly useful for studying peoples of the Andes, where beer was made from corn and was central to ritual celebrations and statements about power and control. The ability to tell who drank beer, and how much, lets archaeologists see who got to participate in these rituals.
